If possible, these factors have to be eliminated or minimized. Certain influences, such as genetic conditions or increasing age, can not be avoided.

Stop smoking!

Smoking is a further important risk factor! The whole vascular- and nervous system is attacked and the body is constantly poisoned. There are many ways and different kinds of help to stop smoking. If you are not strong enough to manage it alone, you should urgently ask your doctor for a help!


Check your blood pressure!

Patients suffering from a high blood pressure are more endangered than other people! Check your blood pressure regularly and, if necessary, ask your doctor for a medicinal control!
Avoid UV light! Another risk factor is the UV light! Protect your eyes from direct solar radiation and wear sunglasses with UV filter!

Healthy nutrition!

The cells of the retina are supplied via many fine blood vessels with oxygen, vitamins, trace elements and many other important micronutrients. This is only possible, if the people have a healthy and balanced nutrition. In case of doubt the nutrition should be completed by supplementary nutrients. With a sufficient supply of all necessary nutrients a healthy metabolism is supported – otherwise AMD is caused on the macula.

The older a person gets the more free radicals come up in its body. Outer factors, such as smoking, UV light, exhaust gases and environmental pollution, additionally support their formation.
