How you can notice AMD

For a very long time AMD can remain unnoticed by the persons affected. The first changes are not painful and they do not cause any visual disorders.

Often is affected at first only one eye – the healthy eye is balancing the loss of vision of the diseased eye for a longer period of time. However, with about the half of the patients within five years a macular degeneration on the other eye is developing.

First symptoms for the illness are indicated with the most of the patients, if there are problems during reading under bad light conditions or if the eyes need a longer time for the change from bright to dark light conditions.

If AMD is progressing, many persons affected suddenly perceive the lines awry or curved. At a later stage objects in the central field of vision are perceived out of focus or even not anymore at all. Furthermore colours seem to be less intensive, or in the middle of the field of vision is appearing a dark mark which constantly becomes enlarged.
