Established therapies with AMD
Even when AMD could not be healed until now, the eye medicine is using different proven and successful therapies which can alleviate the consequences of this disease – such as medicinal- and laser therapies. Especially the “wet” AMD can be treated very well by means of different treatment forms.
If AMD is recognized at an early stage, the laser treatment with the „wet“ form has proven. By the laser the bad blood vessels can be atrophied. On the spots where the laser is used at the same time are destroyed the optic cells and scars occur. That’s why this method is only recommendable for destroying vessels outside the spot of the sharpest eyesight.
With the „dry“ form of AMD at the early stage of the disease a „rheoperesis“ seems to be the right therapy. During this treatment a certain fat percentage is extracted from the patient’s blood – the whole blood flow is improved. Less strangles on the pigment epithelium are the result of this treatment.
The question whether a therapy should be used or not and what kind of therapy can be considered has to be decided after a careful examination by your eye specialist.
