LASIK OP- Verlauf der Operation und ihre Heilphase
Operation and healing period
The operation is an outpatient treatment. Before the operation the patient gets a sedative tablet and a painkilling tablet. Additionally the eye is anaesthetised with drops. Then the eye is fixed with a suction ring and the cornea is cut in that a thin slice of cornea can be clapped aside. Then the deeper cornea layers are shaped with a cold-light laser (excimer laser). With myopia the cornea is flattened in the centre and with hyperopia the centre is ablated annularly the cornea.
During the correction of astigmatism the surface of cornea is ablated that it can approach globularly. After the correction of cornea the cornea layer which was clapped aside before is put again on the operated place and it is pressed on. The slice adheres automatically and protects the wound. After an examination the eye is covered with a transparent bandage and the patient can go home.
During the first hours after the operation the eye is watering and rubbing – the visibility is vague. The transparent bandage can be removed already on the next day and the patient can see again almost normally. For supporting the wound healing the patient gets eye drops which have to be used regularly during the weeks after the operation. Additionally the patient has to come regularly to the follow-up examination. After four to six weeks normally is reached a definite stability of sight.
The method does not offer a guarantee for a life without glasses. After some months or years the ametropia can lightly increase and even with an optimal success the patient will need reading-glasses at an advanced age.
