LASIK Operation- nach der Laserkorrektur

After the operation

LASIK is a very safe operation method with rare problems – the complication rate after a LASIK treatment is one per cent. In some cases the ametropia after the operation is not completely corrected. Patients with myopia (more than –5 dioptres) patients with hyperopia after the operation often are suffering from different defects of vision. If the patient is suffering from rheumatism, there even may appear a slowdown of the healing process. In regular follow-up examinations the oculist has to control especially the healing process.

If the patient is rubbing the operated eye during the first days after the treatment, as a rare exception can happen a postponement of cornea which can be corrected only by a further operation. A further operative treatment is even necessary in the rare case of a corneal adhesion. As a further rare complication the grinding of cornea causes a postponement of the treatment zone with regard to the pupil middle (decentring). This decentring can cause an increased dazzling sensitivity and a perception of double contours. As a rare exception too much cornea is ablated by the laser what causes a protrusion (keratectasia) and a clear worsening of sight or an infection with keloid. In exceptional cases for the treatment of these complications a corneal transplantation becomes necessary.
